Procedures
for Use and Inspection for Electroline Esmet Sealed Swivels |
Loads
should never exceed the safe working loads (S.W.L.) shown. Any
shock load, overload, or side load beyond the S.W.L. can damage
or deform the swivel, in which case the manufacture warranty
is void under these conditions.
Swivels should be inspected regularly for signs of damage due
to overloading, a condition identified by spinning the swivel
by hand. If the motion is rough or has a ratchet like
effect, the bearings have been damaged and should be replaced.
Side loading can occur if the swivel is improperly used as
part of a sling or when it is pulled over a sheave while loaded. Damage
is indicated when the swivel turns freely in one spot and locks
in another, or by inspecting the gap between the barrel and
shank. If the gap is wide on one side and closed on the
opposite, there is damage.
Swivels showing signs of failure should be returned to the
Esmet factory with a detailed history of the unit - use
of swivel, how employed, loads imposed, length of service,
etc.
